This International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Southern Africa Research Capacity Network (SOFAR) celebrates the remarkable women strengthening research capacity across Southern Africa.
Our network is shaped by the leadership and expertise of Professor Katharina Kranzer, Dr Rashida Ferrand, Professor Virginia Bond, Dr Constance Mackworth-Young, Dr Rudo Chingono, Dr Mikaela Coleman, Dr Sesaltina Nora Monteiro and Dr Kwame Shanaube and many other dedicated colleagues. Together, they are advancing high-quality research, mentoring emerging scientists, and helping to build resilient institutions across the region.
Representation in science is more than visibility — it creates pathways. When women lead, mentor, and innovate, they expand what is possible for the next generation of scientists.
At SOFAR, strengthening research capacity goes hand in hand with strengthening opportunity. By investing in talent and fostering inclusive scientific environments, we are contributing to a future where African-led research continues to thrive and shape global health solutions.
Today, we celebrate the women across our network who are not only driving discovery but also inspiring the scientists of tomorrow.
